Year 4 Curriculum
Maths
In year 4, we follow the White Rose scheme of learning. We also do a Mastering Number starter every day which helps with our fluency. Our topics for maths are:
- Autumn term - Place value, Addition and Subtraction, Measurement, Multiplication & Division A
- Spring term - Multiplication & Division B, Length & Perimeter, Fractions, Decimals A
- Summer term – Decimals B, Money, Time, Shape, Statistics, Position & Direction
Guided Reading
We use Grammarsaursus Comprehension Crushers to explicitly teach word reading and reading fluency through a range of activities including echo reads, timed reads, and fluency grids. Comprehension Crusher units last two weeks and the focus of the learning comes from the content domains specified in the National Curriculum. Each reading unit focuses on two or three of the content domains and the units are arranged to ensure complete curriculum coverage.
- In year 4, we follow the I Am a Clever Writer scheme of learning.
- We also do spelling tests weekly which children will come home with at the start of each half term.

PE
We use Get Set 4 PE for our lessons in PE and specialist coaches also help to develop our skills.

We teach the Worcestershire syllabus for Religious Education. Our topics are:
- Autumn term – How do festivals and family life show what matters to Jewish people? What is the Trinity?
- Spring term – How do festivals and worship show what matters to a Muslim? Why do Christians call the day Jesus died Good Friday?
- Summer term – For Christians, what was the impact of Pentecost? How and why do people mark the significant events of life?
