Chestnut Class Spring Term 2025.
During the Spring Term Chestnut Class have studied lots of fascinating topics and have taken part in many events.
In  English we celebrated World Book week, children dressed up on World Book Day, taking part in exciting competitions throughout the week to celebrate our chosen author focus: Roald Dahl. Children created alternative book designs for Roald Dahl's books and created tasty Roald Dahl inspired bakes.
Our chosen text in Year 3 was The Magic Finger and the children created their own characters and character descriptions to fit in with the book and studied the illustrations of Quentin Blake before creating their own images in his style.
In Maths, we have carried out lots of work on measurement and fractions. Check out our pizza fractions, they were delicious!
In Science, we have studied forces and magnets and plants and have completed many practical activities including, sorting objects into different types of forces, testing magnetism of objects, labelling parts of a plant, investing the roles of the key parts and labelling and creating models of the parts of the flower.
In the wider curriculum this term we have celebrated our achievements by making our own medals in PSHE, showing how proud of ourselves we are. In Art, we have learnt how to use acrylic and water colour paints successfully alongside creating working magnetic fishing rods games with working pulleys in DT.
We were also lucky enough to visit RGS The Grange for a trip inspired on learning french through phonics, which all the children thoroughly enjoyed. We learnt new vocabulary, songs and even had hot chocolate and croissants!
Some children from Year 3 also took part in the inclusion Festival at The University of Worcester Arena. They were fantastic rol-models for our school and took part in a range of inclusive activities including blind-folded football, seated volleyball and wheelchair basketball!
Our big curriculum focus for the term has been The Egyptians, with Year 3 having an Ancient Egyptian Workshop booked where they could explore various artefacts including a replica rosetta stone, learnt about the use of canopic jars, learnt how to read and write in hieroglyphs, played Egyptian games, mummified each other and even used VR headsets to visit the Luxor and The Pyramids of Giza! We also carried out our class assembly based on this topic which the children thoroughly enjoyed and was a huge success!

In Geography, we looked at land around the UK and how it is used, ending in a debate around whether a new supermarket should be built on Ombersley's park!
Lastly our history topic was The Stone Age to Iron age where as part of this topic we created playdough roundhouses, compared the periods of time within the Stone Age and took part in a Stone Age Day at Bishop's wood where we had the opportunity to be hunter gatherer's for the day, completing tasks such as hunting and gathering food, making bread, building fences and constructing our own shelters!
