PE and Sport funding 2020-21

Physical Education Funding 2020/21

Vision For Physical Education
At Ombersley Endowed First School, we believe that Health and Well Being is paramount. Physical Education and Sport play a vital role in the physical, emotional and intellectual development of all children. Physical Education and sport is so important in giving children the knowledge, understanding and the tools to make informed choices about healthy living and to have a positive impact on their health and well being.

As part of our vision, we aim to;

  • Improve the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity.
  • Raise the profile of PE and sport across the whole school as a tool for whole school improvement.
  • Offer a broader experience of a range of sports and activities to all pupils.
  • Increase participation in competitive sport.
  • Increase confidence, knowledge and skills of our staff in teaching PE.

PE and Physical Activity at Ombersley

Curriculum

We aim for children in Reception to achieve the Physical Development Early Learning Goal.

KS1 and KS2 work towards meeting the attainment targets set out in the National Curriculum and the children have the opportunity to participate in a broad range of physical activity with the teachers and specialist coaches.
In addition to the traditional sports being played at school, we also invite in coaches to deliver their specialist sport, such as Golf and Yoga. These sessions with external coaches also contribute towards staff CPD as they take place during curriculum time.

Year 3 and 4 swimming sessions take place at Droitwich Leisure Centre in the Autumn term and then Year 2 and Year 3 have swimming sessions in the Summer term.

What is the PE and Sport Premium?

The Government provides funding of £150 million per annum to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport and will see money going directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.

The sports funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Purpose of the extra funding

Schools must spend the funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they have the freedom to choose how to do this.

Possible uses for the funding include:

  • hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
  • new or additional Change4Life sport clubs
  • paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
  • providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
  • running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
  • buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport
  • providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and holiday clubs

Sports and Health Week 2021
We had a really lovely Sports and Health week this year. We had a different focus this year. It was all about taking care of ourselves and our mental wellbeing.
Each day started with a Thrive activity followed by a different activity each day.
Year 4 started the week at The Aztec Centre taking part in Archery and climbing. The rest of the school learnt some Yoga moves.
On Tuesday the whole school learnt some cool skipping moves with Adam from Jump Rope UK and on Wednesday we had another Adam who taught us Hula Hooping and Circus skills. They weren't as easy as we thought they were.
Finally on Friday, Julia had us all Boogie Bouncing on the trampolines. It was great fun!
Throughout the week the children took part in Active breaks throughout the day and learnt more about how to eat healthily and how exercise affects our bodies. Year 4 loved designing, making and tasting a healthy Smoothie.
Summer 1 2021 Key Stage 2 Cricket
This term, in Games, we are learning some of the skills for Cricket. A coach from Worcester County Cricket Club is teaching us. We are really enjoying our lessons.

After just four weeks of learning some hockey skills, we had our house Hockey competition. It was vry competitive and there were some excellent skills of attack and defence being used.
The final result was a win for Sapphire house. Well done everyone!
Spring 2 2021 Key Stage 2 Hockey
This is the first time most of the children in Key Stage 2 have had a go at learning some hockey skills and playing some small games. The children have tried regally hard and have loved trying something new.
In the final football session of the half term, Key Stage 2 took part in an Inter House Football competition. The children had to use all the skills they had learnt. There were some very close matches but the final result, for Year 4, was a win for Amber house. Sapphire house were just beaten on goal difference. Well played everyone!
